About Some Of Elon Musk’s Big Ideas

peacefulpurniElon Musk’s plans and theories emerge from a view that sees the physical world in economic and industrial terms, and also dreams large about soon “conquering” other worlds.

This is part of the ordinary anthropoid’s fear-based vision for mastering, and dominating, the natural universe, before understanding and mastering oneself.

I have no objections to Elon Musk’s inventiveness and creativity. He has developed remarkable innovations and projects, and inspired others to do similarly.

However, when he is interviewed about his visionary ideas, the interviews are usually one-sided, with his plans escaping challenges from serious questioners. Perhaps the interviewers feel inadequate, or are simply disinclined, to press further.

But with an increasingly large influence, together with a strong desire for involving all, or much, of humanity in his projects, it is most important that his, and other such people’s, ideas always be vigorously debated.

Three of Musk’s BIG IDEAS:

  1. Maximizing Human Population
  2. Off-Earth Human Civilizations
  3. Consciousness and Existence

Maximizing Human Population

Musk’s proposal that the Earth can, and should, easily sustain upwards of 50 or 100 billion people is a theory that is completely unproven. It is also immensely impractical, improbable, and forcibly damning for the rest of Earth’s ancient life.

We might wonder, then, what even prompts such an idea?

At its source, it likely stems from an uninspected fear of survival, projected outwardly onto humanity at large.

Indeed, most of human ambitions, invented goals, and striving to survive, are rooted in our chronic, and uninspected, fears.

Off-Earth Human Civilizations

Elon Musk also proposes that humanity must develop an intergalactic existence – through migrations to other planets and onto space stations. He argues that humans’ survival depends on this occurring because our being solely Earth-bound risks human extinction to meteorite impacts, atomic wars, and pandemics.

But he never discusses that as human populations move off the habitable Earth, if they manage to survive at all, they will certainly, and possibly rapidly, begin evolving into forms that will become distinctly different from what we are now.

And because present-time humans are not at the pinnacle of our evolution, even those who remain on the Earth will also steadily evolve into species that, one day, could not be considered human at all.

So why this impulse for preserving and defending such a limited idea of “humanity”?

Perhaps the root of this misapprehension lies hidden within our still infant fears and hopes – always feeling vulnerable and separate in our existence… and desperate for control.

Can we not – Elon and all of us – simply, and fully, allow for our spontaneous, mysterious, human process to become whatever it will?

Fearing No More

FNM1about the mechanisms of human fear.

Consciousness and Existence

The reason given for greatly increasing human numbers, as well as for migrating out into space, is a perennial fear for the “forever survival” of human beings, and therefore, apparently, of “our” fragile human consciousness.

But this suggests that humanity is a fixed quantity, and commodity, now to be indefinitely preserved “as is”.

And this also supports the theory that “consciousness” is singularly human, and therefore especially deserving of preservation at almost any cost.

But is consciousness really only found among humans – within the human mind?

Consciousness seems much more universal than that.

“What [then] is consciousness?”

Researching this question is more important, and will be more humanly beneficial, than journeying off into outer space.

Such investigation, combined with broad, and open education, is a much bolder adventure for all of us to embark upon!

More interesting and enthralling than mere “outer space”, or other planets, a rigorously benign consideration of both internal (inner spaces) and transcendental (beyond all spaces) states, should become every human being’s personal, and fundamental, preoccupation…

———————————-

Before humans do anything more at all, whether on the Earth or elsewhere, we should first remember, understand, and completely know, what we, as human beings, really are, and also, how to respect and care for the entire Earth – where we live…

Coincidingly, we should also first understand both our human and sub-human fears, and how they motivate, and impede, all of our best and worst ideas and plans.
